    Need advise on the use of "Article", thanks, teach

    Which one is correct?

    1a. Different flavours of ice-cream smell like different kinds of fruit.
    1b. The different flavours of ice-cream smell like different kinds of fruit.

    2a. Scoops of ice-cream look like cotton balls.
    2b. The scoops of ice-cream look like cotton balls.

    It depends on whether you are talking about specific ice cream (with article) or ice cream in general(no article). I'd be tempted to use 'smell of'.
