    What do you call this?

I have to translate a German interview into English and there's a German phrase called "das Ruder herum reißen", which means literally "to turn the rudder". The German phrase means that someone may at least change a (specified) thing to make it e.g. better.

Do you have an English translation for that one?

    Best and thanks in advance.

An English translation would be "to change course" or "change direction".
