    beyond

    Dear teachers,

    Please read the following sentence:

Beyond determination, courage, and vision, I look for students with a growing sense of confidence.

    In my dictionary it reads:
(beyond) used like 'except' in negative sentences.

My question is the above sentence is that 'beyond' means 'except' but this not a negative sentence. Does it mean the rule has been changed?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you in advance.

    Jiang

    Re: beyond

Might be better to say 'Apart from determination..' Or, 'As well as...' Even 'Above', or 'More Than'.. All are better here than 'Beyond'.

You are a football fan! Your name doesn't agree with it.

Oh! I hope it won't make you feel so this time.

    Re: beyond

I am not. Partly because I am not patient enough to wait for the result and partly because I don't have so much time to watch them. I only watch the semi and the final match of the World Cup. And I watch Sports on TV to see the excellent moments of some football matches.

    Re: beyond

OK Jiang, not everyone finds the game interesting. By the way your English is looking good. By 'excellent moments' I think you mean 'highlights'
