    Talking 244-if/whether

    Hello all

What is the difference between (if) and (whether) as ((adverb connectors))?
I need some examples, differences in meaning and use.

    Regards

    Matilda

I'm not sure what you mean by "adverb connectors". Both of these words are conjunctions. They can have the same meaning to express uncertainty after verbs such as ask, doubt, know, learn, find out, discover, or see.

Let's find out whether/if she can go.
He began to doubt whether/if there was a God.
I want to know whether/if I can start work on Monday.

In other uses, they cannot be interchanged.

He didn't know whether to run or fight. (introduces two alternatives)

Obviously, we use "if" for conditionals, but you know that.
