    Question I wish and Only if

    Hi
    what is the difference between 'I wish' and 'if only' ? Which tenses can you use both of them ?

    "I wish" expresses hope.

    "If only" expresses regret.


    Both can work to express similar thoughts but the way they work is like the adage of: The glass is half empty/ the glass if half full.

    I wish I had a car.

    If only I had a car.

    The subjunctive mood is used when you apply these.
