    a cheer song?

    Hi,

What do you call a song you sing to encourage somebody, like a song supporters sing for their favorite sport team, or a song you sing for your depressed friend?
    A cheer song?

In the US, songs for sports teams are called "fight songs". Short rhymes or expressions of support are called "cheers". A song for a friend could be called a cheery song, a happy song, etc.

A football/etc chant; also, before the match, there are the anthems. I'm not sure about the depressed friend though.

Not 'a cheer song'; but we have 'cheer leaders'.

Not at all, PD. I've been thinking about the depressed friend - you'd try to cheer them up and you might sing them a cheery or cheerful song. I doubt if singing would do the trick though!

I see, thank you again, b!

The reason I was wondering about this is Daniel Powter's song, "Bad Day".
The song has been sold in Japan with a Japanese sub-title which means "a song to cheer you up on your unlucky day".
(And the song actually cheered many Japanese up! )
