    I think it's not conversion but inversion. The change of word order in a sentence, I mean. And what is the difference between conversion and inversion than

    Conversion- changing something into another- you could convert an active sentence into a passive one
    inversion- changing to order

    Inversion can be used when we have certain adverbs and phrases at the beginning of a sentence:
    I had never seen such a mess.
    Never had I seen such a mess.
    Never; rarely; no sooner; hardly; not only

    It can used in conditionals to replace 'if':
    If I had been there, things would have been different.
    Had I been there, things would have been different.

    It can be used after so + adjective + be
    So great was the storm...
