    2 Qs

#1Is the following sentence an inversion? I think so.

There a short distance ahead of the stopped train he saw a washed-out bridge.

If so, is it said that he say a washed- out bridge a short distance ahead of the stopped train there?
How would you change the sentence to a usual sentence pattern?

#2 Which is correct, their times or their time? If both of them are correct, could you tell me the differences of the meanings?
It may cost them a lot of money and take up much of their time.
    Thank you very much

    Re: 2 Qs

1 I don't think this is inversion and would simply put some commas in:
There, a short distance ahead of the stopped train, he saw a washed-out bridge.
A more normal version of the word order would be:
He saw a washed-out bridge a short distance ahead of the stopped train.
    2 Time

Thanks Tdol, why do you think in this case time is used uncountable? If it is used in the plural form, what does it mean? chances or something?

    Re: 2 Qs

When it is uncountable it refers to the measure of time passing, and when it is countable it means 'occasion'- I saw her three times.
