    Perfect Vs Simple

Which one is correct to say?

"For the first time, we have organized such an event."

"For the first time, we oraganize such an event."

This depends on how recent the event is/was.

If the event is going on at present or was held in the recent past, the present perfect would be common.

If, however, the speaker is talking about something in the distant past, the simple past would be used. The problem lies with speaker's view of recent and distant. That will vary.
