    Which one is correct?

    Welcome 2007 !

    Hi Teachers,

Which of the following answers is / are grammatically correct ?

1.It is certain that they-----home today.
    a] won`t be coming
    b] wouldn`t come
    c] won`t come

    2. I couldn`t make up with her after I ---- what she ---- Mary about me.
    a] had heard ;had told
    b] heard ; told
    c] had heard ; told

In my opinion 1 c and 2 b [or heard ; had told] are correct.
Does the phrase "it is certain" require Subjunctive mood?

Thank you very much in advance,

    Regards,

    Re: Which one is correct?

I'd say that a & c are OK for 1, though a sounds more natural to me. For thew second, you could a or b.

I think in the first sentence C is correct. I'd agree with Tdol but many people don't feel the difference between Future simple and Future continuous. I think Future simple is o.k. In the second sentence I think B is correct as I can see past actions happening one after the other.

    Re: Which one is correct?

As far as I know, the Future Progressive reflects the idea of certainty, so I’d vote for 1a.
And my choice is 2b, as 2a is perhaps needlessly cumbersome.

I think "a" is correct for the second sentence.past actions happening one after the other If you say so , there should be past perfect tense.
