Question From Jane Walsh (2): none the worse

From Jane Walsh, "Not like this"
"Not content with fighting Germans, Turks, Bulgars and so on, he started up a few fights of his own, and eventually returned none the worse."
What does this none the worse mean here?

    Thanks,

He came back from these fights quite unharmed and unchanged.

Thanks, Anglika. Can I use this phrase in other sentences? Is it an idiom? Any examples? (So many questions!)

    Indeed you can.

She was none the worse for that little holiday.

Rosy goes out in all weathers, and will be none the worse for an hour's brisk skating

It was not in the newest fashion, of course; but none the worse for that.

    and so-on
