    What is the difference in the mening of the above sentences?

    You can't say "Some girls went on some picnics." It's incorrect.
    The second one is acceptable.

    You are trying to make your sentences grammatically correct. Even if it is grammatically correct it doesn't sound English. "Some" is not always two or three, it can have a different meaning too.
