    Post Question about if clauses?

    Hi,

I need to write a sentence for the following purpose:

we have a computer system where a report is to be run after user specify the area for which the report is to be printed for.
now we want to tell that the system will raise a warning message for the user in case of no area was entered by him/her.

    should we say:
    1. if user didn't enter the area, system would raise the message:' you should enter the area' or
    2. if user doesn't enter the area, system will raise the message:' you should enter the area'
I mean should we use the 1st conditional type or the 2nd one.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Question about if clauses?

I would use the first, as there is a probability that they will do this; otherwise, you wouldn't be putting the message in. What do you mean by 'area'? If it's an item for a database, I'd use the term 'field':

If no field is entered, the system will bring up the message 'You should enter the field'.

    OK, then use 'area'.
