    Hi talkj,

    it depends on what you would like to say:

    Small talk is the somewhat superficial, but polite chat about the weather, ones health etc. In this case I would use:

    We made short talk ..... or I made short talk with ....

    On the contrary, if you say

    I had a small talk with .... means, that you talked to someone about a particular subject, perhaps you discussed a certain problem with someone- nothing superficial.
