    A prep question

The Hollywood studio system in film making, which began ---- 1920 and flourished from the early 1930s ---- the 1950s is unique in Western culture.

    A) throughout / into
    B) around / through
    C) by / until
    D) within / over
    E) along/ till

The question is taken from an official proficiency test, known as KPDS. Which option looks better, B or C? Is it common to use "from...through..." instead of "from...to..."?

Thank you very much in advance.

The KPDS is a Turkish qualification about which I know nothing, except that it seems to examine American English; 'from... through...' is not acceptable in British English. But because of the influence of AmE through TV/film, some BE speakers are starting to say 'from ... through to...'.

As for C, 'until' is OK in that context, but 'by' would take a past perfect. So the answer must be B.

    b

Thank you very much for your answer BobK. The information about the usage difference between AmE and BrE is also bonus and very helpful.
