    correct word

The rise in energy efficiency / consumption has led to a reduction of fossil fuels that the world must use.

I feel the correct word is 'consumption'. If I'm wrong, could you please explain why?

    consumption is the correct choice.
BTW, the sentence sounds a bit unnatural to me.

    Re: correct word

It would sounds a bit more natural if it said something like 'fossil fuels available'.

The answer provided to me is 'consumption'. I would like to know the reason. However, I will write what I think is the reason and could you let me know whether my reasoning is correct?

The more energy is used the less fossil fuels are available.

Am I correct in my reasoning? Thank you in advance.
