Coffeehouse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What is the difference between a coffe shop and a coffe house in American English?
A coffee shop usually refers to a small, inexpensive restaurant or diner. The menu is usually limited to breakfast and lunch items, and they are frequented by working folk - people who have a short lunch hour and appreciate fast service and hearty home-cooked food, or people who start work very early, and need a good shot of caffeine and a "stick to your ribs" breakfast before facing the day.
A coffee house is more like a Starbucks type establishment; they offer a huge variety of specialty coffee drinks and a small assortment of pastries and sandwiches. They tend to appeal more to white-collar types who have time to sit and spend an hour or more sipping a cappuccino.
