    after + verb tense

    After he ............. Alaska, he was was killed by Indians

    a) visited
    b) had visited

    Which one is correct ?

    Both are fine.
    After makes the time sequence clear

    If you have to choose, then [b] is correct
    Past perfect tense -here : an action completed before another action in the past.[first he visited Alaska and then he was killed: Before he was killed he had visited Alaska]
