    opposite of spendful

If I'm going to say to a person that he should not be spendful, how am I going to say it in English. Could you give examples for both the formal and informal way of saying it.

    Thanks.

Do you mean, don't be a spendthrift? That's a person who spends possessions or money extravagantly or wastefully.

I mean a one word for "not spendful". Could I say:

    - You should thrift yourself.

    Is this correct?

You don't 'thrift yourself'; the verb is 'be thrifty'. A more extreme sort of thrift is 'tightening your belt'.

I've always been thrifty, but now I have lost my job I'll really have to tighten my belt.

This is quite informal, but it's quite popular among politicians: The people of the UK will have to tighten their belts.
