    My uncle's house is just outside the city? What is the meaning of just here?

    It means that his house is not too far away from the city, probably only a few miles from the city limits.

    This phraseology is often used to indicate that you live very near a large city. "I live in Birmingham; it's just outside of Detroit."

    in England we would say it is just outside Detroit.
