    do a good turn
    do something good (for somebody)

    She thought she was doing him a good turn when she recommended him for that job, thinking it would be a promotion.

    take ahold of
    grab onto something, either literally or figuratively

    Example:
    Take ahold of the leash so the dog doesn't get away.
