    correct sentences

    That was the last time he drove a car.

    That is the last time he has driven a car.


    That was the first time he drove a car.

    That was the first time he had driven in a race.

    Which of the sentences are correct?

    You could invent a context where it might be possible- if, say, I wedre going to rush up and ban him from driving again, but it's tricky.

    Your example would be better with 'was'.

    I think this one's correct form should be That was the first time he had driven a car.

    "Two years ago, he was convicted for drunk driving. That is the last time he drove a car."

    Seems to me to work in the right context.

    OK, but that a historical present for narrative- in many contexts, it wouldn't work- I didn't say it was wrong.
