    The paintings are strangely ascetic.

I found in dictionary that ascetic mean ----- avoiding physical pleasures and living a simple life, often for religious reasons.

But this meaning is not matchable with the above sentence.

So, could anyone tell me the meaning of `ascetic' in this sentence?

    Re: ascetic

ascetic also means austere in appearance. Check out the meaning of austere.

    There is also aesthetic?

    All the best.
