    Talking 257-the meaning of a sentence

    Hello all

    What does this sentence mean? I didn't get the general meaning.

    The war had all but ground to on halt in the blink of an eye.

    Basically: The war had nearly stopped very quickly.

    Expressions:
    grind to a halt
    blink of an eye
    all but

    (I assume your original sentence should be The war had all but ground to a halt in the blink of an eye.)
