    difference between sentences

    1. Did you eat lunch?
    2. Have you eaten lunch?

    What is the difference between the two sentences? I remember reading sentence 1 is AmE while 2 is British English.

    I don't think that it is as clear-cut as that. The BrE/AmE differential is smudging. #1 is usually used as a simple enquiry, where #2 suggests an increased concern or perhaps an impending offer, but either could be used in identical situations.
