    the or not

I recently read a sentence in a book "the US, Austrilia, and the UK". why didn't the author use "the Austrilia" instead?

The United States, the United Kingdom.united is an adjective describing the states and the kingdom.Australia is just a proper noun on its own like England. You wouldn't say the England.
