    Whis is/are correct:
    1-The apartment was bought by John to be used as a studio.
    2-The apartment was bought by John to use as a studio.

    I would guess they're both considered correct. I'd certainly hear them both spoken. :)

    They're both correct, but I'd say the second is more common.
