    If you mean the first cosmonaut, it was Yuri Gagarin, from the USSR.

    Yuri Alekseyevich Gagarin (Russian: Ю́рий Алексе́евич Гага́рин, Jurij Alekseevič Gagarin; March 9, 1934 March 27, 1968), Hero of the Soviet Union, was a Sovietcosmonaut who in 1961 became the first human in space and the first human to orbit the Earth.


    Neil Alden Armstrong born August 5, 1930 (age 76) is a former Americanastronaut, test pilot, universityprofessor, and Naval Aviator, and was the first human to set foot on the Moon.

    Do you mean a human or a pet? Four years before Yuri Gagarin, in 1957 two dogs: Belka and Layke were sent into space in the USSR.
