    If I came back...

    "Would you prefer it if I came back another day?"

    Is this use of past simple correct? Should it really be "I came back"?

    I would normally expect to use "come back" in this context.

    Why do you expect a present form with a modal preterit in the main proposition ? Will you prefer if I come back ?
    By the way could anyone tell me if the structure If I should succeed ? is correc t?
