    I'd come across

I would like to know if the term I'd come across, is correct or not? refering to a possible encounter with something or somebody.

    Thanls

    Re: I'd come across

Yes. If you're speaking in the past tense, such as referring to something you'd encountered a while ago, but something you hadn't seen in a long while, you'd say "I'd come across." If it is something you see upon occasion, you'd say "I've come across."

    Examples:

"A Wangenstein suction device? I'd come across it a few times years ago in nursing school, but I haven't seen one since."

"I've come across manual transmissions many times in my life, so I'm sure I'll be able to drive your car."

Not really. That was strictly an example. Truth be told, I never learned how to drive a stick shift (manual transmission).

    Re: I'd come across

The majority of cars sold in the US come with automatic transmissions these days.
