    Smile law problems

    The police said there was no sign of a ..................entry even though the house had been burgled.

    1. broken
    2. burst
    3. forced
    4. smashed.

    3. In a forced entry, a window may be broken or smashed, or a door may be burst open, broken down, or even smashed off its hinges; a door or a window may be kicked in; if the burglar uses a tool, it may be prised open; if not, it may be wrenched off its hinges. The house is broken into, and suffers a break-in. But the entry itself is forced.
