Present participle is gerund- you can use it as and adjective or a verb----> Homonym of gerund
    Gerund is: V+ing
    example: walking-playing-watching....etc

That is a big question with a homework sound to it...

Very simply, some verb+ing forms are called 'present participles', when used in particular ways - as verbs with auxiliary verbs to make tenses; as adjectives; as adverbs.

'She is/was screaming' - making continuous tense
    'The falling woman' - adjective
'She fell screaming from the window' - adverb

A gerund is an -ing used as a noun.

'Swimming is good for your health'
