    I am surprised to see the word in this context:
    Now I understand how those inexperienced walkers call out the Mountain Rescue Team from some perilous peak.

    Climbers would be OK.
    Please, what do you make of it?

    Hello Humble,

    Both are possible. "Walkers" ascend mountains by the easier, gently sloping routes; but sometimes, as they ascend, they investigate the more difficult parts, and then (perhaps by slipping, or simply misjudging their own abilities) find themselves in trouble.

    For instance, the Welsh mountains (which are mostly not very high) are very popular with weekend walkers.
