    Structure of want

    Dear all,

    I was told that the "want" has two structures :

    1) want + something
    2) want + someone + to do something

    I want to know that the under which category metioned above the following sentence will fall.

    "I want the real culprit to be arrested"

    PLease explain with reason also.

    Re: Structure of want

    Active: I want the police to arrest the real culprit.
    => 2) want + someone + to do something
    Passive: I want the real culprit to be arrested (by the police).

    Hope that helps.
