    trickle up

What does trickle up mean in the following sentence?

A trend is born when it trickles down from the drawing board of a fashion designer or trickles up from the street.

The "normal" flow pattern [this is being compared to water which always flows/trickles downward] for fashion is from the designers to the end users, people on the street.

But sometimes, the idea for a new fashion is born on the street, invented by people and then a reverse flow, a trickle up occurs. The designers take an idea already invented from the street.
