    "It's all I can to..."?

I hope someone can help me out with this:

It was all I could do to keep from groaning aloud.”

So does this just mean something like, "It took me some effort to keep from groaning aloud."?

    Thanks in advance.

More than "some effort", ACDCFAN. The speaker is stating, but likely exaggerating for effect, that they were doing all in their power to keep from groaning.
