or "he lives in quite a large room"

"she works in a predominantly male environment" or
"she works in predominantly a male environment"

Yes, but I do not teach English, but maths and physics
Follow your nose when deciding where adverbials may sit in a sentence, rather than trying to swot the rules.

"he lives in a quite large room" isn't OK, imo

The rule holds that when 'quite' is used with and adjective before a noun, it comes before 'a' or 'an'.

Other examples: (quite a...) She's quite a beauty. (quite a lot...) We played quite a lot tennis yesterday.
