    watered-down

The TV series is a watered-down version of the movie, especially designed for family viewing.

What does `watered down' mean in this sentence?

    Please exlain it.

    Re: watered-down

The bad language (swearing) and the violence had been taken out of the film so that children can be allowed to watch it.

    Hi,
And I'd think it means they just diluted the film in order to make 100 episodes from the same plot.
In Russian we say There's a lot of water in the report/ lecture etc = there's little substance, guts.

    Regards

I would agree, but the reference to "family viewing" rather indicates censorship as well.
