    Why this is wrong?

I had received the document this morning.

I have been told this is wrong.

But this is right (I received the document this morning)

    Could anyone clarify it, please?

"I received the document this morning" is correct when you say it in the afternoon or evening.
When you say it and it's still morning it's coorect to say:" I have received the document this morning."
We use Present Perfect with "today, this morning ( week, month, year)".

    Thank you.
But I am talking about (Past perfect)

I had received the document this morning. (Why this is wrong?)

Because you only need a past tense. Past perfect is used to express an action before the past. If you say:

I received a book yesterday. Then you say:
I had received a pen before I received a book yesterday.

You need to have a past tense to be in contrast with past perfect.

    Hi, Gary,
You may need some more info.
had received is the Past Perfect Tense, which in fact can only accompany the Past Simple - either in the same sentence or somewhere nearby; it shows an action that happened before another action in the past.
I played golf yesteray. I had never done it before.

    Regards

    Sorry, Ian.
Let it be, though. It won't hurt, will it?

In this case you should write: I had received the document by this morning.
Past perfect shows an action which happened by or before another past action.
