Righteous= adjective morally right or justifiable
Indignation = noun annoyance provoked by what is perceived as unfair treatment

So it is annoyance that is backed by a sense of the morally right. It is not just a diplomatic term - it can be used on any situation where someone perceives an injustice.

It can also be what religious fundamentalists (any religion, any sect, any denomination) think they are entitled to when they see something "immoral", such as a couple kissing, sexually explicit content, curse words, a woman walking alongside a man instead of behind, etc.
