    Past Tense...

    "He went to the match"
    "He did go to the match"
    Is there any difference ?

    Here's an example:
    A: Jim and Peter went to the match (simple past)
    B: I didn't see Jim there. Are you sure?
    A: Yes, Jim and Peter both went.
    B: No, I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Jim didn't go.
    A: Yes, I'm telling you - Jim did go to the match!

    Use it to emphasize that it really happened.
