    For ICC, what is at stake is not just the millions of rupees that might have been wasted, but the willingness of sponsors to gamble again for the World Cup in 2011. again for the World Cup in 2011.

    What does `to gamble again' mean in this sentence.

    Gamble = verb 1 play games of chance for money; bet. 2 bet (a sum of money). 3 take risky action in the hope of a desired result.

    The third meaning is being used here.

    Sponsors put up large sums of money to support the teams. In return, they can advertise at matches, and use the teams in media edvetisements.

    If the team does well, they hope it will persuade people to buy their products. If the team does badly, it may stop people buying their products. It is a gamble.

    They may not be prepared to take the gamble in 2011 if this year the team fails.
