    Question Black Sheep

I wondered if there was a concise alternative idiom for 'black sheep' which sadly seems to be inappropriate in this politically correct time.

    Re: Black Sheep

What's wrong with black sheep? Poor things, they can't help having black wool - it's in their genes.

As the term derives from the days when black sheep were rare in Britain, and therefore they stood out in a flock, it has no connotations other than that the black sheep is (a) different, and (b) not necessarily good for the whole as the black wool adulterated the crop. If people are going to become hypersensitive about words, we had better stop using them altogether.

    Re: Black Sheep

    Hi, KPAT,
It depends on the context. It could be rogue in some.
