    Dressing.

    Hi,
Could you please help me understand this?
(From Lucretia Stewart’s article on “dress-down Fridays”)

Intellectuals, artists, musicians and other subversives traditionally demonstrate their difference from the Suits by the way they dress. If the Suits themselves start dressing any old how, it is the beginning of chaos. You’d think they could have worked that out for themselves.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Dressing.

"any old how" - any way that they desire.

"they could have worked that out for themselves" - they could have figured it out, or should have known that sth would happen

    Re: Dressing.

any old how - I've never heard it and didn't find in dictionaries. Is it worth taking into EFL active vocabulary?
for themselves meaning without anybody's help?

    Re: Dressing.

"any old how" is more of a colloquial or slang expression.

"for themselves" - yes, you are correct.
