    lung opener

Bangladesh, coming on the back of a shock win over India in their lung opener, suffered heavily at the hands of the Lankan batsmen as they went after some mediocre bowling after captain Habibul Bashar asked Sri Lanka to bat first on winning the toss.

    Please explain the highlighted words.

Coming on the back of [a shock win] over India in their lung opener - Bangladesh were not expected to win this match with India, which was their first in the series [their lung opener]. They have come into the next round after winning it.

suffered heavily at the hands of the Sri Lankan batsmen as they went after some mediocre bowling] I think it is saying that Bangladesh actually did badly in their round against Sri Lanka, even though the Sri Lankan bowlers were not bowling very well. This is a badly written sentence!
