    packed/crowded

    Hi,
The bus was crowded with passengers.
The bus was packed with passeners.
Are the two sentences the same meaning? Or what is the defference between 'crowded' and 'packed'?
    Thank you a lot.

    Re: packed/crowded

Not much, but 'packed' is more people to me, so in the case of the bus I'd use it, not crowded.

    Re: packed/crowded

Thank you Tdol for answering. But It is still a little hard for me to tell when to use 'crowed' or 'packed'. If there isn't enough room for me to move and I am squeezed so hard that I can't breathe on a bus, which should we use? Could we use 'crowded' in the case?
    Thank you a lot.

From your description, I would say "packed".

    Re: packed/crowded

There is a subtle difference here:

Crowded describes the state where there are a lot of people in the same place (a crowd), but they are not necessarily extremely close together - for instance you can have a very large crowd in a busy market, or a town centre on Christmas Eve, or a popular football match, or a pop-concert. You can have a crowd of 100,000 but there is still room for everyone to move around.

Packed means very close together so that one can't move relative to another. It doesn't necessarily have to be crowded to be packed - for instance, a bus could be packed because there might be 50 people standing on the lower deck it when there was only room for 30. That isn't a crowd, it is packed!
