    While____ to help Tom with his work, I was always bored because Tom didn't pay attention to what I said.

    a) I tried

    b) to try
    c) trying
    d) try

    What do you choose? That's one of the question I always be confused with!

    WHILE - Although.
    Although I tried to help...

    WHILE - During the time that
    While trying to help

    I think either can be right! However, you have to look at the rest of the sentence. It wasn't "Although I tried to help, he still failed" so the although meaning doesn't really apply. So it must be the other.

    Even so, I think it's a poor question.

    I think in my first sentence, if while means although then it has to add " hard" or any adjectives that point out the contrary.
