    will / would

What will you do when you are in my shoes?
What would you do if you were in my shoes?

The second sentence is correct, but is the first sentence also correct as 'when' is used instead of 'if'?

Both are correct -- the second one is hypothetical, the first is factual.
'if' implies hypothesis and means 'in case that', 'in the event that'.
when = in the event that, free of hypothetical connotation

Yes, Svartnik, both seem to be correct. But we don't usually use the first sentence, do we?

Not often, but a person on the verge of retirement, say, could say it to the person known to be taking over.
