    "would defend" or "would be defending"

    in the following phrase:" my supervisor is confident that I would defend and submit the final version of the thesis in the near future." which is more appropriate to use I would be defending and submitting or would defend and submit and what is the difference between the two ?

    My supervisor is confident that I will defend my thesis in the near future.
