    the day is a hump

This is a quote from Pinter's "The Room".
Rose : "the day is a hump. I never go out".
Does it mean: days can be very depressing because I never go out?

    Thanks for your help.

Rose is saying "I never go out because I find the world outside depressing/boring/frightening"
